I have noticed a growing trend.
They wind me up. These are little windows that jump at you as soon as you load a website, covering the page and shouting: Look at me! Subscribe! Buy now! Click me!
It is so annoying and is seriously slowing down my laptop. It is already slow, and the pop-ups are not helping! It takes ages to find a reasonably good content before you give up on the thought of opening another website and being slapped with a new slimy pop-up.
It seems like there is no way to escape it, as Ecommerce experts actively encourage website owners to install them. Articles advocating using popups to gain subscribers are not helping either. This is a growing trend, and I am on the verge of considering stopping using Internet altogether. The only thing that gives me sanity is a consolidation that people will come to their senses at some point and these popups will get some kind of regulatory treatment. Should I start a petition to stop popups directed to the… err, boss of the Internet?
